Mentor Matches and Antagonists...
on: October 23, 2018, 07:39:13 AM
If you are a player of a more experienced level (40 and above) do NOT accept Mentor Matches. I am a veteran player and I am telling you now reject EVERY single mentor match you see, it is NOY worth it. Antagonists if a significantly lower level will waste the new players and you WILL lose the match. You are pretty much guarenteed to lose with new players verses an antagopnists. And you are NOT properly rewarded for accepting. A little hint for you, XP doesn't mean shit above a certain level. What matters is gold and faction. If you don't get a reward of gold or faction from a mentor match then it isn't worth your time.

If you are a new player, I'm sorry. MSE has created a system where an antagonist, of ANY level, can come into your new experience and farm you for kills. MSE has mde you a liability. As a result many players don't want to group with you. When you seee a new match queue and then the queue cancels stating "other player declined" it's because they saw you were a new player because the system warns them and offers a paltry reward for essentially losing, a consolation prise for a guaranteed loss. Players decline because they know there is nothing stopping an antagopnists coming and and completely wasting their fucking time and causing an unavoidable loss.

MSE has made it so no one wants to group with you. And I'm so sorry this has been placed on you, you don't deserve this. But after the experience I've had with Mentor Matches and antagonists I will never EVER accept a Mentor Match, and I guarantee I don't care about a 20% XP bonus, and that isn't even remotely worth it.

And if you, as new players, are able to muscle through low levels and get into the upper double digits and see a Mentor Match I fully encourage you to avoid Mentor Matches as well. You WILL regret accepting them, I promise. And until MSE takes Antagonists out of Mentor Matches no one will accept Mentor Matches, and you will continue to get canceled games because the system warns everyone that you are new.

There's nothing we can do about it, it stinks. I know. But this is the ultimatum we've been given. Sorry.

Apologies in advance for the slightly overdramatic essay. :p

I'd like to say that I highly discourage this. New players deserve a chance and honestly they surprise me often than not. It always puts a smile on my face when we're well coordinated and I get to watch a new player learn. Sure they can be really frustrating, especially on Blueprint missions but we were all new once. You win some and you lose some, just accept the loss, move on and try again. It took experience to learn the game. It's also worth noting it takes just 1 new player for it to be a mentor match. You could have three players be lvl 300+ and just 1 newbie for it to be a mentor match. I myself am currently around lvl 115 so I like to think I'm an experienced player even if I can't be called a vet since I wasn't playing before it became Spacelords. I went up against a team of new players on In Shock and they actually beat me. I was a little annoyed but also impressed. And I've teamed with experienced players who are way worse than most new players I get. The point I'm trying to make is that level doesn't matter. New players are NOT a liability. Players should be judged by their playstyle and not their level. My advice is that if you get a mentor match, don't decline, instead just give the new players a chance. Even if you lose there is always the next game. Don't be annoyed that you're getting new people, be happy that the community is growing.

Mentor matches are a gamble that i am personally still willing to take, if there’s no antag they can go very smooth, I’ve completed stages like mind over matter with teams of all sub lvl 10s, just yesterday I did beasts lair with a group of sub lvl 5s in pretty decent time.

That is if there is no antag, if you get invaded then I agree completely, it’s not worth it, so imo just throw the match and move on…

Even if you lose there is always the next game.
On that we can agree lol, lose fast and hope rng blesses you on the next match ;)

A whole bunch of sensationalist nonsense.
First you say that people of a lower level should not join mentor matches.

Then you go on to explain that you're sorry to the players that necessitate a mentor match but no one wants to join with you and that you wish things were different.

Do these two ideas seem like they make sense when used together?

I can't tell my dog to stay inside then get mad when they pee on the carpet, right?

I shouldn't tell people not join mentor matches then immediately complain about people not joining mentor matches, right?

Honestly, if you have so much shit to throw at the game, as I've seen from most of your recent posts, then why not leave?

You are at this point trying to personally attack the developers of the game and I doubt it is helpful at all.

MSE has at the most made it so YOU don't want to play mentor matches and YOU are hardly the majority of players.

I gladly take mentor matches. I've made about 15 new friends from them. Garbage post like this are harmful to the growing community.

As for Antags... So what? No one is making you play the game.  Play something else plain and simple.

Bullshit. just drivel and manipulative narrative that's coming out f that mouth of yours.

I apologized to lower level players because I wish it wasn't so. That being said, I will accept no mentor matches. Guess what, it's my fucking right. I don't have to. And you know what else? I can express the reasons why I don't want to accept mentor matches.

YOU come in here like the censoring police to silence dissent. Um...no? i don't Fing care what you have to say. I gave my reasons why I won't accept Mentor matches, I gave my reasons of why i think it's an issue. "insulting the developers" what manipulative "language" you got there, I think other people call it differing opinion. You would be a good politician. I also gave my apologies to the new players letting them know it's not them or their fault, but it's a design flaw.

If you don't like this well, piss off? Sorry, this isn't communism, people can voice their own opinions and feedback and suggestions. Psst, have you seen where I posted this post was created smart guy? But I'm not going to silence myself because it offends you, rocks your delicate sensibilities or makes you clutch your pearls with disdain, or, more likely, goes against a narrative you want. Nothing you can say can erase the experience I have accepting Mentor Matches. Nothing you can say will "shame me" into silencing myself and working against my own interest.

I'll say it again for you. I think Mentor system is unrewarding, not worth the liability and cost of taking on new players. In MY experience, not yours and your doesn't matter to me, I have found antagonists in Mentor matches to be incredibly debilitating to progression in a system that is already a slow crawl with successful games. This, to me, is poor development. so, I leave my experience and opinion HERE! Where it was designed specifically for.

I have spent money purchasing this game and all it's campaigns, multiple skins and load outs. You want to silence me? I'll give you my bill and after you pay it, sir, I'll be GLAD to shut of for you. If you don't like that, and you don't like my opinions either then you know what you can do with that and where to put it...

"Thanks!" and "Have a good day."

Incredible. You leave feedback in FEEDBACK and people lose their shit because they didn't like your opinion. I need to remind people that the name of this secion of the forums isn't called "discussion and Debate" it's called feedback. ALL that is fucking rqired of me is to leave my feedback and leave. Don't have to discuss it, don't have to defend it, don't have to do shit. Just drop off my experience here, REGARDLESS if other people like it.

that's it. That's ALL you do in a place called "feedback". Please stop being the gestapo here.

Let me make an honestly productive suggestion, no sarcasm. If you don;t like my feedback I HIGHLY recommend making a countering feedback thread saying how much you LOVE the Mentor matches, how GREAt that 20% XP bonus is, how you are exhilarated by the challenge of babysitting new players against max forged, max stat antagonists. Tell your experience...leave your...FEEDBACK. But don't bring your gag orders here.

Oh look, ANOTHER mentor match/antagonist thread adding nothing new to the conversation. Have we not beat this horse to death enough, yet?

Dude there's like 3 or 4 of you that post these threads almost every day, or hijack other threads to spiral down the same argument path, like the thread about enjoying antag mode. My desire to remain active on the forums has been on a sharp decline because it's just more complaining about the same 2 mechanics from the same 5 people. It's an echo chamber.

The forced pvp/antag topic is one that will pop up again and again no matter what, be it from vets or new players because its wrong, again there is no logical reason why some ppl should be forced into pvp and have a bad time just so some random person can have his fun, the fact it has kept on going for so long without being made optional defies all logic from both a game design and business perspective.

There has been multiple instances of ppl saying it shouldn’t be optional, and everybody should just put up with it, I mean this is a damn videogame, the point of it is entertainment, how can someone even suggest forcing pvp is ok, it’s a train of thought that is simply hard to wrap once head around.

Almost all successful pvp games of note have vs ai or singleplayer modes that also reward the player, SCVI just came out, why don’t antags go to that games forums and suggest singleplayer and vs ai modes be removed? Because apparently by antag logic everyone has to pvp or gtfo, let’s see how that works out…

Anyone that cares about fairness and the long term survival of the game itself is going to continue asking for optional pvp, because it’s the only logical way in which the game can continue forward, kind of ironic you call this an echo chamber, a place (same as steam forums) where new players keep popping up with the same antag complaints, I’m not saying there isn’t a raiders echo chamber, but imo said echo chamber is not this forum…

Simple answer @whitebleidd this is not a PVP game, it's a PVEVP model game.  The PVE comes with PVP. I've said this so many times already.

Everyone who comes In expecting a wonderful PVE only experience needs to pay attention this is what this game is. It is a balance of both. This is the game. It's not forced if this is the game. You came into the game knowing about Antagonist system.

Plus it's not like there are Antagonist on every mission. I would say 70 to 30. 30% being missions with Antags. You can get a good streak of missions with no Antag.

So your answer is to basically throw away players, alienate an entire demographic, and for what? What possible gain can that bring? Why do that when you can simply give us (pve players) an area in the game, and the same old question, why are you even interested in pvping against us pve players?

It's not ike it's unheard of. Pvp games alienate PVE players all the time this. This is neither a PVP Or PVE game. Plain and simple. There s a demographic for this kind of game. I'm sure of it.

Why can't you accept that this is the game? I'm sure MSE is working on the unfairness. Hopefully they can bring balance between the raidesr Antags and AI.

To be honest regardless of what they do I'm going to play this game. I just prefer the game the way it is and I'm hoping they can perfect it.

You start your post by criticizing people for 'losing their shit' but then you proceed to throw a tantrum because people gave their opinions. It may be the feedback section but everyone is allowed to give their opinion on your feedback, whether they agree or disagree. That in itself is their feedback. They don't have to create a whole thread just to disagree. And if you want to get technical saying that this isn't called discussion and debate, I could say it's not called 'Tell players what to do' there's not much feedback at all. You're just telling experienced players to ignore mentor matches.

Reason I won’t accept it is because other than the pvp, I consider the game to be great and because I don’t believe it has to be one way or the other, since implementing a pve queue does not mean the removal of pvp.

This game needs all the players it can get, I want it to be supported for many months to come, can MS alienate pve players if they want? Sure, but on a game that has such strong pve gameplay, it would be such a huge waste, it has been a waste for over a year already…
